A person's risk or chances of heart disease is increased by several things called risk factors. The chance of having a heart attack can be calculated by considering information about several of an individual's risk factors together. This can be done with equations that have been created by seeing how risk factors lead to heart disease in a population of individuals. The equations in this tool come from monitoring a population of people in Framingham, Massachusetts over the last 30 years.
